Responding to last night’s vote in parliament on a ceasefire in Gaza and Israel, Alison Griffin, Head of Conflict and Humanitarian Campaigns at Save the Children UK, said:
“Last night was a farce and crucially a distraction from what matters - the need for an immediate, definitive ceasefire.
“The nightmare for families in Gaza continues day and night where they face death from bombs, bullets and starvation. More than 12,400 children have already been killed and countless more lives are on the line.
"The UK government chose not to break with past inaction and finally stand firm against these horrors. Only an immediate and definitive ceasefire will halt the bloodshed. There must be secure, unfettered access for aid and the unconditional release of all hostages.
“The UK is a not powerless bystander. We have an important voice on the world stage. It is vital our leaders come together and use it.”
