Safe Spaces for Children... to be children

Our safe spaces bring a bit of normality back to children's lives when disasters, conflict or emergencies hit.

Patricia plays in a child friendly space in Venezuela

Patricia*, 6, plays among the pompoms at a child friendly space for Venezuelan migrants in Lima, Peru.

Widespread violence forced Patricia* (pictured) and her family to flee Venezuela to Peru, where she attended one of Save the Children's safe spaces for children.

"I like to play because it’s fun. I play hide and seek. I don’t get scared. I don’t ever get scared." - Patricia, 6.

Whether it's solving puzzles, singing, doing crafts, or dancing, our safe spaces offer a refuge - where children like Patricia can begin to feel like kids again.

Through interacting with other children, and the dedicated support of our trained staff, we create an environment that nurtures and heals.

Your regular donation could help begin this process for a child today.

How your regular gift helps keeps children safe

Every child should have access to a safe space to be themselves. Regular gifts are the most effective way for us to plan for this.

Your donations mean we can deliver:

  • Mental health services to help children cope with trauma
  • Education through learning centres
  • Child-friendly spaces to give children a sense of normality

For just under £500, we can create a mobile safe space for children in remote communities.

With your ongoing support, we can give children a chance at the future they deserve.

Who are Save the Children UK?

Every child has a unique story. We help children rewrite theirs.

Save the Children fights for children every single day so they can fulfil their unique potential.

Month after month, in the UK and around the world, we make sure children stay safe, healthy and keep learning, so they can become who they want to be.

We could not do this without our supporters who give a donation every month.

Monthly donations allow us to plan for the long term. So we can be there for children not just today but help them prepare for tomorrow.

We’re collaborating with communities who know best what support they need and innovating to find new solutions to the big problems that hold children back.

We’re one big team and together, we know what needs to be done.

To do it, we need you.
