Taking on the Climate Crisis: Meet Michelle
Children are growing up in a world where climate change is an everyday reality. Fossil fuels are making the climate crisis worse for future generations.
As part of the global Generation Hope campaign, Save the Children UK has recruited volunteer Changemakers from across the country. Our Changemakers will campaign for an end to oil and gas drilling in the UK by bringing communities together and showing decision-makers that the public is fully behind a greener and fairer future.
Here’s Michelle- one of our amazing volunteer leaders- with her story.

One of our Changemaker Leaders, Michelle
My name is Michelle and I live in Cheshire with my 2 boys and our dog. I have just graduated from The Open University with a BA Hons in Environmental Studies.
I decided to join Save the Children as a Changemaker as my passion is to help as many people as possible learn all about climate change, and what steps we need to be taking to address this issue. I hope to be able to talk with schools for example, about how they should be educating pupils about climate change and the issue with fossil fuels.

I’m a volunteer with a few different groups but I find the one clear thing they all have in common, is saving the planet and those who inhabit it. There is still so much to be done in tackling climate change and I’m looking forward to working with others, in getting awareness out there and educating people- especially talking to local politicians, as they have more powerful voices if they just speak up about it and put forward their concerns.
I also can’t wait to start working with a local volunteer group of changemakers, as I believe together we are stronger and can make a real difference. We need to protect the future for the younger generation or there won’t be a future left for them.
I feel very grateful to be given this opportunity to be part of Save the Children’s Changemaker campaign. Hopefully we can recruit more people to join us! This excitingly could be from holding stalls at events, talking to groups or schools or even just by word of mouth.
This is also a great chance to upskill myself and learn new things. I’m always happy to train and educate myself, or to pass on any skills I think I have that someone else could benefit from. I love working with people face to face and making new friends! I think my organisational skills will come in handy and my strong work ethic which gets things done. I’m also a good communicator and that will help when talking with MPs for example.

Generation Hope Changemaker Logo and Call to Action
I’d encourage anyone who has some spare time every now and then to think about becoming a Changemaker too! The future needs people like us to put an end to fossil fuel consumption and the younger generation definitely need us, to help give them a voice and to give them the future they deserve.
We're still welcoming people who are passionate about making a difference to our network.
