'Child poverty target in legislation' says Brown
Save the Children welcomes the announcement that the child poverty target will go into legislation.

Save the Children’s poverty spokesperson, Claire Walker said:
“We’re delighted that Gordon Brown’s speech today has made a commitment to put the child poverty target - one of the most important government targets — into legislation. This is something that Save the Children has been calling for, and it will mean that this government and any future government can be held to account by the law, ensuring they keep the promise to lift millions of children out of poverty.
This combined with other announcements made today on free childcare and educational opportunities shows that child poverty is of integral importance to this government.
However, in addition to these promises today, they urgently need to get back on track to halve child poverty by 2010. They can do this by committing to an additional £3bn in the upcoming pre-budget statement
